Habits
We thought it might be helpful to have a list of habits that we’ve collected along the way. It might stimulate you to think of any others that you need to add to your list!
- I eat lunch at my desk, without concentrating on what I’m eating.
- After dinner, I need to eat something sweet
- I’ve always had a biscuit with a cup of tea
- I leave my favourite food of a meal to last, so have to eat it even if I’m not hungry by then
- When I go shopping I always have a coffee
- I always put sugar in my restaurant coffee, as I assume it’ll be strong – but don’t check first
- I always go the same way round the supermarket aisles
- I stick to the same foods each week
- Thursdays means going to the pastry counter and get a treat
- Watching TV means thinking about what food is available
- I put a lot on my plate when dishing up without thinking how hungry I am
- If it takes longer than half an hour to cook, I can’t be bothered
- First thing I do when I get up is make a cup of tea
- If I have a sandwich, I have to have crisps too
- If there’s something nice on the plate, I’m not going to leave it
- I hide food from others, so I can gorge on them in private
- When I go on holiday I always have champagne at the airport
- When I am on holiday I always have a drink in the room before going out to dinner
- I ignore the calories, fat or sugar if I really want something
- If it’s “healthy” (or, for example, gluten free), I won’t check the nutritional value
- I always put mayonnaise/tomato sauce/brown sauce on my food
- I squirrel things away so that I can eat it later with a cup of tea (as treat)
- If I don’t eat it all now, then I might lose out (eg with friends if sharing)
- I always have a glass of wine on a Friday/after a hard day
These are the habits we’ve collected so far, but we will continue to add to the list. If you would like to help other Alpha members, why don’t you email us your habits and we can add them too.
